an obstacle called "school"

so, school started.  you know how that goes... i'm loving my ridiculously difficult animation classes.  time consuming, but if you love what you're doing, then that's what you should be doing anyway.  i'm taking digital painting (which is hard), character design & vis dev by ryan woodward (which is pretty awesome and allows me to draw lots of crap), and shader programming (i'm shading a carrot now).  i'll do a better job updating the blog as the semester goes by.  thanks for stopping by!

oil painting class wrap-up!

so, the summer term has come to an end.  sadly, my oil painting class is over.  i've learned a lot in this class, and came to realize that i have so much more to learn regarding oils, color, and lots more.  i really enjoyed this class.  here are some portraits that i think i really enjoyed.  enjoy!

oil painting process

first off, those crappy photos were taken with my iPhone 3GS (yes, the old one), and i apologize for the quality.  anyway, i think i'm finally starting to understand how warm and cool tones work together in an oil painting.  it has been an awesome term, and i've learned so much from this class.  enjoy!

so, lately i've been emulating a lot of different artists, and i've ended up loving skottie young, john timms, mike yamada, mike mignola, and several others who i can't really think of at the moment.  look them up, and i promise you'll find their work promising.

today i had a good 3 hour painting session.  here are the progress shots.  tomorrow we're going to do some color!  wish me luck :).

oil painting!

i'm taking VAILL 450R (Painting the Human Head) taught by Greg Newbold.  this class is amazing so far, and it's literally the first time i've done oil painting.  usually, i don't put up crap work up here, but i believe that persistence and effort pays off.  as you can see, my third one from today is such a huge improvement from the first one.  Greg Newbold is the MAN, take his class if you can.
